Who can buy a crash report
Crash reports are confidential except for people listed in Transportation Code Section 550.065. They include anyone involved in the crash and their authorized representative, a driver, the owner of a damaged vehicle or property, insurers covering a vehicle or person involved, and any person who may sue because of a death in the crash (§550.065(c)). TxDOT says people who do not meet the criteria receive a redacted copy (TxDOT).
Driver reports (CR-2) are no longer kept
TxDOT says that since September 1, 2017, it no longer keeps the Driver's Crash Report (Form CR-2), and it no longer holds any CR-2 records. If no officer investigated your crash, keep your own copy of any driver report (TxDOT).
